Three years ago, a violent car accident sent Dawne McKay’s life spiralling into a chaos.

“I had multiple injuries: five or six broken ribs, fractured fingers and a seatbelt wound on my side,” she said, recalling the morning in 2012. “I had to have daily nursing for two-and-a-half months for that, because it was quite extensive.”

After staying three days at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, McKay was discharged despite not being able to walk due to her injuries. But the trauma continued.
